Comparative Evaluation of Spanish Segmentation Strategies for Spanish-Chinese Transliteration
نویسنده
چکیده
This work presents a comparative evaluation among three different Spanish segmentation strategies for Spanish-Chinese transliteration. The transliteration task is implemented by means of Statistical Machine Translation, using Chinese characters and Spanish sub-word segments as the textual units to be translated. Three different Spanish segmentation strategies are evaluated: character-based, syllabicbased and a proposed sub-syllabic segmentation scheme. Experimental results show that syllabic-based segmentation is the most effective strategy for Spanish-to-Chinese transliteration, while the proposed sub-syllabic segmentation is the most effective scheme in the case of Chinese-to-Spanish transliteration.
